If you are looking for a place that is surrounded with lush greenery, pastoral farms, gushing valleys and snow capped mountains, Manali is the place to head for. Named after the Hindu lawgiver Manu, The word literally means the abode of Manu.

The pace is usually very famous for apples. The british had introduced this edible fruit at a time when the fruit was not native to Manali. The tourism industry boomed after the rise of militancy in the late 1980s.

Transport

Road from delhi to Manali is very good. Although lenthy, the long stretch is easily covered enjoying the beautiful landscapes. It is a treat for the eye. The hghway connecting the road is NH-21. This route is the highest motorable road.

By train :

Manali is not easily approachable by rail. The nearest stations are in Patahkot, Klaka and Chandigarh.

By Air:

The nearest Airtport is Bhuntar that is about 50 km away from Manali.

Manali is very famous for trekking. It attracts trekkers form all over the world. Charas, a world famous drug is found here. It is from here that it is exported to all destinations of the world. Besides that the place is also famous for adventure sports like skiing, hiking, mountaineering, para gliding, mountain biking,river rafting etc.

Places to visit in Manali

Manali is famous for its buddhist monastaries and temples.

Hadima temple: Made in 1533, this temple is dedicated to the local deity Hadimba, the wife of Bhim, the great warrior. This temple is famous for its carvings and four storeyed pagoda.

Naggar Fort: Tgis place is usualy famous for the rich and elegant artworks of Himachal. Tis is now converted into a luxury hotel and a rest house. The shrine in the temple makes the place famous.

Rohtang Pass :

This place is ineviably cold even during peak summers. This is the highest point on the Manali-keylong road that provides a beatiful view of the serene mountains rising above clouds. A small lake called Dassaur lake flows near it. Adjoining that is Beas Kund that is the source of river Beas. The winters see a closed closed due to heavy snowfall.

Rahala Waterfalls : These falls measuring about 2,501 km are the the most beatiful waterfalls int the world. They are about 16 km waey from Manali in the beginning of Rohtang Pass.

Rani Nala: This is the glacier point which contains snow throught the year. It is situated 46 km away from Manali.

Vahisht Hot Water Springs:

About 3 km away from Manali, a saml village resides which is very famous for its Hot water Natural sulphur springs. The place leads to inner conciousness and contains a temple of old stone .

Solang Valley Pass :

This place is very famous for its 300-metre ski lift. It offers splendis view of the smow capped mountains.

Manikaran: This holy place is 85 km away form Manali and 45 km away form Kullu in the Pravti valley. The spell bounfd feature of this place is the combination of icy cold waters of the Parvat river along with hot water springs. The springs famous for their healing properites.

Adventure in Manali

Since snow is abundant in Manali, Solang Nullah in January and Rohtang La in summers are very famous skiing spots.

Kayaking is done in the Beas river.

Hikers hike up the western banks of the beas to the Solang valley.The longest stretch is from Solang valley to Dhundi and from there to Dussar lake and then to Manali.

The place is also famous for paragliding on the slopes of the Solang Nullah.

River rafting is also organized in the monsoons from mid september to mid october.

Also fishing can be done if permitted form the HTPC.

River crossing along the river Beas is another famous sport.
